Young food explorers visit Navan mill

Navan-based Indian food company and flour mill Reddot Food welcomed over 20 families with children from across Ireland to their very first Reddot Food Explorers Day in August.

The children explored wheat, ragi, jowar, bajra, amaranth, horse gram, oat bran and other grains. They discovered different pulses and cooking oils, and learned about the role spices play in Indian cooking.

They also walked through our stone flour mill to see how a simple grain becomes the flour that reaches their family's kitchen. They built healthy plates, asked thoughtful questions, created artwork and proudly received their Food Explorer certificates.

This initiative was held to show children where their food comes from, how it was made and to encourage their interest in food and cooking.

Founder of Reddot Food Srinivas Rao Chinthapandu said: “It starts with a grain. A farmer. Milling. Cooking. And the people who bring all of those things together. Many of these ingredients have been part of Indian kitchens for generations. It is our responsibility to make sure the next generation understands them too.”

This event was welcomed ahead of Ireland India Day 2026, Ireland's premier celebration of Irish–Indian friendship, culture and collaboration, which will take place on Sunday 30th August 2026, at the Trim Castle Hotel.
