Gardaí confirm fatality in N3 crash

Serious two vehicle collision occurred just after lunchtime

Gardaí have confirmed that a man in his 60s has died following a fatal road traffic collision on the N3

The collision involved a car and a van at Drummallaght, between Virginia and Cavan, shortly before 2pm today, Monday, August 10.

The male driver of the car, aged in his 60s, was fatally injured in the crash. His body has been removed to Cavan General Hospital.

A female passenger in the car, also aged in her 60s, was seriously injured and was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital for treatment.

The male driver of the van, aged in his 50s, was taken to Cavan General Hospital with minor injuries.

The N3 remains closed at the scene to facilitate an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who was travelling on the N3 between Virginia and Cavan between 1pm and 2pm today.

Motorists who were in the area and may have dashcam or other camera footage are being asked to make the footage available to investigating Gardaí.
