Plans for a new road linking the Trim and Commons Road
Plans for a new road linking the Trim and Commons Road in Navan were unveiled at a meeting of Navan Municipal Council last week.
The 1.13km link road, which will be known as the LDR 2(a) will link the Trim Road, just past Balreask Manor with the Commons Road at the Robinrath estate, which is currently under construction. Councillors heard that the road will be 6.5 metres wide through a mainly greenfield route. There will be 2.5 metre wide footpaths on either side of the road, along with cycle path 2 metres wide on both sides and these will be segregated from vehicular traffic by 1.25metre green verges.
The work will involve the demolition of one house on the Trim Road and alterations to the boundaries of three dwellings on the Trim Road.
Director of Services Martin Murray recalled Meath County Council had been successful in securing funding for five infrastructure projects, including the LDR 1 which will link the Trim and Dublin Roads in Navan. He explained that they were pushing ahead to have planning in place the LDR2(a) so it could be included when the next tranche of similar funding is made available.
Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons asked if the road was an extension of the road at Robinrath and this was confirmed.
Cllr Eddie Fennessy said he had been waiting for movement on this road for a few years. "I welcome this development with open arms. Phase one has been completed, phase two will follow soon, both of which are developer driven. Phase three will be delivered by the council and when completed, it will open lands up for much needed residential development.
“This is another important piece of infrastructure that will help to develop Navan as an attractive place to live and work.
“As representatives of the people, we must ensure this road is safe and accessible for pedestrians, wheelchair users, mothers with buggys, public transport users, cyclists and motorists alike. That will be my sole focus as we progress this plan through the system.”
The council is proposing to make a Part Eight Planning application for the project and plans will go on public display shortly.
