From coast to countryside... Meath Outdoors brings a month of adventure across the Royal County

Meath Local Sports Partnership (Meath LSP) is pleased to announce the launch of Meath Outdoors, a month-long programme of outdoor recreation activities, to encourage more people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to get active and try something new and discover the incredible natural amenities that are right on their doorstep.

Meath Outdoors will take place across the county throughout August with a wide variety of activities and events on offer to allow people to enjoy the many benefits of being in the outdoors including physical, social and wellbeing.

There will be activities for all levels of experience, including beginner-friendly, family-friendly and programmes suited for adults and children with additional needs. Sports and actives include kayaking, orienteering, pilates and dip, and snorkelling.

It will highlight the excellent outdoor spaces in Meath and encourages people to discover the scenic trails, beautiful coastline, and natural environment of the county, while meeting new people and living a more active lifestyle.

Mary Murphy, CEO of Meath Local Sports Partnership, speaking about the new programme said Meath has some of the most amazing outdoor areas in the country, “Whether it's one of our rich, scenic greenways, stunning coastline or beautiful countryside, or any of the other countless opportunities, people are encouraged to get outside and enjoy all of what the county has to offer.

In the wonderful weather we have enjoyed, there has never been a better time than now for people to get outdoors, discover a new activity and the positive benefits of being active in nature. Meath Outdoors is about promoting and publicising these opportunities and to encourage all ages and abilities to engage and enjoy our amazing local environment to the fullest.”

Outdoor Recreation Officer at Meath LSP, Ross Kenny, noted that outdoor recreation is a key part of creating healthier, more active communities, “Outdoor recreation offers a unique pathway for people to enhance their physical wellbeing, boost their mental health and foster meaningful social connections. Spending time in nature and exploring the outdoors is something that is extremely valuable, whether it is someone's first time engaging in an organised activity or they regularly enjoy taking part in outdoor activities.

With Meath Outdoors, we want to encourage outdoor recreation for all. The programme has been designed to accommodate all abilities and experience levels to allow individuals, families, and communities to get active, gain confidence and have fun outdoors.”
