Sentenced to two months jail after hospital incident

An incident at Our Lady‘s hospital, Navan involving the disturbance of paramedics, staff and patients resulted in a 36 year-old man receiving a two month jail sentence on Tuesday.

Gavin Commons of Newlanes, Duleek told he was serving a three year sentence. Judge Derek Cooney said that the new sentence would not interfere with his release date.

The defendant was charged under the Public Order Act with threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour and a second count which the Judge took into consideration of being intoxicated on the occasion.

Garda O’Gallachoir recalled at Trim District Court that on 12th February last he answered a call to assist paramedics. He found a male highly intoxicated and deemed he was a danger to himself and others.

Paramedics conveyed the defendant to the hospital, where the Garda described that the defendant didn’t comply with paramedics and staff and hindered patients.
