Voyage returning to Trim with three nights of summer proms
Following its hugely successful debut at last year’s King John Summer Prom, 'Voyage - Ireland in Song' returns to Trim this week for three special performances at the Trim Castle Hotel.
The acclaimed production will take place tonight (Monday) tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday 8th July at 8pm, bringing audiences on a powerful musical journey through Ireland’s stories, songs and spirit.
Last year in Trim, Mel Gibson described the show as ‘The best Irish show I’ve ever seen’ and even gave a standing ovation mid performance for singer Shóna O’Sullivan’s new version of the Cranberries hit, ‘Zombie’.
Blending soaring orchestral arrangements with powerful vocal performances, Voyage - Ireland in Song celebrates Ireland’s rich musical heritage — from haunting ballads and timeless airs to uplifting songs of love, longing, adventure and resilience.
This year’s performances will feature the Irish Philharmonic Concert Orchestra under the baton of producer/conductor Niall O’Sullivan, with actor Patrick Bergin appearing as the Seanachaí, guiding audiences through the stories and emotions at the heart of the music.
They will be joined by internationally renowned vocalists Shóna O’Sullivan, Leah Barniville and Brian Gilligan, each bringing a distinctive voice and stage presence to the production.
The production also brings a strong personal and artistic connection to the stage, with husband-and-wife team Niall and Shóna O’Sullivan at its heart — Niall as conductor, producer and musical director and Shóna as one of the featured vocalists, as a duo they have performed all over the world.
They are joined by two outstanding Irish performers, Brian Gilligan and Leah Barniville, both known to audiences from Britain’s Got Talent, with Brian’s career spanning the West End and major Irish stages, and Leah having performed at venues including London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Completing the line-up is Irish screen legend Patrick Bergin, who appears as the Seanachaí, bringing his unmistakable presence and storytelling power to the production.
From orchestral power to intimate storytelling, the cast and musicians combine classical performance, musical theatre, contemporary song and Irish tradition to create an evening that is both deeply rooted in heritage and freshly reimagined for today’s audiences.
The concert has been described as a unique celebration of Irish culture, placing much-loved music and storytelling at the heart of a full orchestral experience.
Following five standing ovations at last year’s festival, its return to Trim is expected to be one of the highlights of the summer arts calendar in Meath and beyond.
This year’s King John Summer Prom Festival will focus on the acclaimed production, offering audiences an intimate concert setting in the heart of historic Trim with over 30 performers on stage.
Niall O’Sullivan says: “We are thrilled to bring Voyage back to Trim.
Last year’s response was extraordinary and this year we are delighted to present three performances in the beautiful setting of Trim Castle Hotel.
It is a celebration of Irish music, heritage and storytelling and we are looking forward to welcoming audiences from Meath and beyond.”
Eric Lawlor, founder of the King John Summer Prom Festival, added: “Bringing Voyage - Ireland in Song back to Trim feels very special. This production was born here and the reaction from audiences last year showed us that it had truly connected with people. It celebrates who we are through music, story and performance and to present it again in the heart of Trim, with such an extraordinary group of artists, is exactly what the festival was created to do. We are proud to welcome it home.”
