Hard at work at last year’s sand sculpture competition.

Creativity at Bettystown as sandcastle and sculpture competition set to return

The National Sandcastle and Sand Sculpture Competition returns to Bettystown Beach on Saturday 11th July, promising a day of family fun, creativity and community spirit.

Now in its 23rd year, the competition has become one of the highlights of the summer on the Meath coast, attracting hundreds of participants and spectators from across Ireland. From towering sandcastles to imaginative sculptures, entrants of all ages will transform the beach into an open-air gallery using nothing more than sand, shells, driftwood and their creativity.

The sand sculpture competition gets underway at 10am, while the sandcastle competition begins at 2pm, with categories for young children, families, junior sculptors and senior sculptors. Prizes will be awarded for the most original and creative entries, including a top prize of €500 in the senior sculpture category.

Whether competing or simply enjoying a stroll along the beach, the event offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of Bettystown Beach and celebrate the artistic talents of the local community and visitors alike.

Organisers are encouraging everyone to bring their buckets, spades and imagination for a memorable day by the sea. With favourable tides and hopefully plenty of sunshine, the competition promises another unforgettable chapter in one of County Meath's most cherished summer traditions.
