Laytown Races colouring competition launched
The annual Laytown Races Colouring Competition was launched this week at Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh, Laytown, with special guest MEP Nina Carberry joining almost 300 enthusiastic pupils for what proved to be a memorable and inspiring morning.
The competition is organised by the Laytown Races Committee in partnership with Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh.
Each year, pupils are invited to showcase their creativity by colouring a specially commissioned illustration created exclusively for the event by renowned racing caricaturist Birdie.
This year’s launch was made extra special by the attendance of MEP Nina Carberry, who spent time speaking with the children about her remarkable career as a champion jockey and her current work as a Member of the European Parliament.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed hearing Nina’s experiences, and a question-and-answer session followed, with the children asking a range of thoughtful and insightful questions.
Laytown Races Manager Jessica Cahalan said:
“Our annual colouring competition is a wonderful way to engage with the children in our local community and to strengthen the fantastic relationship we have built with Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh over many years.
“We were absolutely delighted to welcome Nina Carberry to launch this year’s competition. Nina was incredibly generous with her time, and the children were fascinated by her stories and experiences. It was a truly special morning.”
The completed entries will be displayed at Laytown Races in September, where racegoers will have the opportunity to admire the wonderful creativity and talent of the young artists.
