Gaelscoil na Mí, Ashbourne 2-1
The mists that swirled around St Loman’s Park for many of the finals on Thursday had eased momentarily by the time the players from Boyerstown NS and Gaelscoil na Mí kicked off the day’s proceedings in the Div 3 Camogie final.
Boyerstown confidently asserted their grip from the start using their wide range of polished skills as they race into an early lead with a flurry of scores including one goal from Lana Conaty and two from Lucy Lynagh.
By the interval Boyerstown led 3-8 to 0-0 and you knew it was going to take something truly exceptional from Gaelscoil na Mí to get back into contention. Not that the brave warriors from the Ashbourne school ever conceded defeat. Like true battlers they fought for every ball until the final whistle.
It was just that Boyerstown were in exceptional form putting together a string of flowing moves that yielded a rich harvest of scores with Conaty going on to bag 1-5 in total while Lynagh hit 2-3.
Then there was the exceptional contribution of another in-form forward, Zara Metry. She posed real problems for the Gaelscoil na Mí defence as she found her way through to score, not one, not two but a remarkable FOUR goals. Sally Buchanan also contributed to Boyerstown tally with a point.
Gaelscoil na Mí certainly weren’t short of heroes with Meabh Ní Chuinn and Isabelle Ní Scalaí netting for the them while Olga Bilot contributed a point and embarked on some scorching solo runs but there was no denying Boyerstown.
