PRIMARY SCHOOLS FINALS: Saints march on despite late goals from Trim side

St Seachnall’s NS 4-5

Gaelscoil na Bóinne 4-0

At one stage in this Developing Schools Hurling final at Trim on Thursday it looked like St Seachnaill’s were going to win the trophy comfortably enough. They led 2-4 to 0-0 at the interval and were still ahead 4-5 to 0-1 going into the closing stages but in the concluding minutes Gaelscoil na Bóinne staged a startling comeback that yielded three goals.

Still, even that hefty flow of goals could not stop a sharp and well-drilled St Seachnall’s side from marching to a victory.

The winners were greatly helped along the way by two goals in rapid-quick succession in the opening half scored by Darragh Kenefick. Harry McCarthy and Paddy McHale also found the net for the Saints as they marched ever onwards. Those goals were added to four points from McCarthy and another scored by Cian McGarth.

It looked certain that it would all be more than enough to secure the title for St Seachnall’s but then we witnessed Gaelscoil na Bóinne’s remarkable powers of recovery.

That comeback was sparked by a magnificent goal scored by Hugh Mac Gahbann. Soon after Adam Ó Deoráin did something similar to make the closings stages interesting.

Soon after Ó Deoráin’s strike, Cuán Mac Sandair found the net again for the battling Gaelscoil na Boínne side to set up a grandstand finish. However, soon after the final whistle sounded. St Seachnall’s had survived.
