Laytown woman attempted to headbutt Garda

Judge Eirinn McKiernan issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a 38 year-old woman to carry out sentence on her.

She convicted Ciara McCormack of Seaview, Laytown who faced two charges of assault following an incident where she attempted to headbutt a Garda and was highly aggressive and called members names.

The defendant was not present for the hearing of her case. She was arrested when Gardai responded to a public order incident at Seaview, Laytown on 14th May last year. She was extremely aggressive in the back of the patrol car when being conveyed to Ashbourne Garda Station, Trim District Court was told on Thursday.

At one point she lunged towards a Garda in an attempt to headbutt him. She was described as “very aggressive and volatile” and roaring and shouting. She continued to be aggressive on her arrival at the Garda station.

Separately, a 25 year-old woman from Dublin, Jessica Campbell was returned for trial to this week’s sitting of Trim Circuit Criminal Court.

The accused with an address at Woodbine Park, Raheny is charged with causing serious harm at the Headfort Arms, Kells on 26th January last year.

She was served with a copy of the book of evidence in the case and appeared before Trim District Court on Tuesday last, when an application was made to send her forward for trial to the local circuit court.

This was granted by Judge Eirinn McKiernan who remanded the accused on bail to the sitting this week.

The Judge directed that copies of interviews be provided to the accused’s legal team, and cautioned the accused she had 14 days in which to notify the state if she intended to rely on a defence of alibi.
