Trim recruitment event part of drive to hire 800 home care workers

Family Carers Ireland will host a recruitment event in Trim on Tuesday, 12th May, offering people locally the chance to learn more about flexible, meaningful work as a Home Care Worker in their own community.

The event, which will take place at the Castle Arch Hotel, Summerhill Road from 10am-7pm, is one of 19 recruitment events being held nationwide from 11th to 18th May as part of Family Carers Ireland’s campaign to recruit 800 Home Care Workers across Ireland.

Family Carers Ireland is encouraging people in Meath who are compassionate, reliable, and interested in rewarding community-based work to attend the event and find out more about the roles available.

The recruitment drive comes amid growing demand for care at home, as more families support loved ones living with disability, frailty, dementia, chronic illness, and other long-term conditions.

In Ireland, an estimated 624,190 people provide care to loved ones. For many families, reliable home care can make the difference between managing and crisis.

Home Care Workers support people with a range of personal and practical care needs at home, from personal care and companionship to dementia support. The roles help people remain safe, well and connected at home, while also giving reassurance and practical support to the wider family around them.

Denise Nolan with Family Carers Ireland, said: “We would really encourage people in Meath to come along and find out more. Home care is deeply meaningful work. You are helping someone get through their day with dignity, comfort, and reassurance.

“These roles suit people who are patient, steady, warm, and reliable. You don’t have to come from a formal care background to explore whether this could be right for you. What matters is that you care about people and want to do work that has real value in your own community.

“For the right person, home care can be an incredibly rewarding career. You build trust over time, you become a familiar face, and you can see the difference your support makes not just to the person receiving care, but to their family too.”

Sean Dillon, Head of Home Support Services with Family Carers Ireland, said: “Good home care can make the difference between a family managing and a family reaching crisis point. These roles matter because they help people remain at home with dignity and continuity of care, while also giving practical support to families.

“What makes Family Carers Ireland different is that we understand care from both sides. Alongside home care, we also provide wider supports for family carers, including training, respite, advocacy, and peer support. Many of our Home Care Workers are former family carers themselves, so they understand the reality families are facing. As a not-for-profit organisation, our focus is on putting the right support around families and delivering care that is centred on their needs.”
