Padel court facility plan served up for Ashbourne

A planning application for the development of a padel court facility at the Ashbourne Retail Park has been lodged with Meath County Council.

Pargo Properties One Ltd is seeking permission for the construction of three external padel courts with an associated canopy enclosure along with a single-storey structure containing a sauna and changing facilities with ancillary storage. The development also includes a bin store, five car parking spaces, boundary treatments and internally illuminated signage at Ashbourne Retail Park, Ballybin Road, Ashbourne.

Last month planning permission was been granted for County Meath’s first indoor padel tennis facility at Mullaghboy Industrial Estate in Navan.

The 21,000 sq ft complex will house six padel courts – five doubles and one single – as well as a sauna, changing rooms and a players lounge.

The centre is expected to open in Summer 2026 and will be developed by David Usher of Indoor Padel Ireland who has strong family connections in the area.

Padel is a fast-paced racket sport played in an enclosed court that combines elements of tennis and squash. Social, accessible and easy to learn, padel’s popularity has exploded in recent years, with an estimated 25 million players across some 110 countries worldwide, and more than 60,000 active players in Ireland alone.

The indoor amenity in Meath will strengthen this network and facilitate year-round, consistent participation, whatever the weather. It will be open to the public seven days a week and will also be available to teams and companies to use the facilities.
