Meath benefits from major Drogheda housing project

Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris visited Drogheda today to mark progress on a major housing development that includes units allocated to Meath County Council.

The Avourwen development on the Platin Road will deliver 663 homes in total, with 425 already completed and a further 76 under construction.

Thirty apartments in the scheme have been handed over to Meath County Council, with an additional 50 units being developed for Oaklee Housing.

The project is being delivered by Duleek-based Manley Homes with support from Home Building Finance Ireland.

Speaking at the site, Mr Harris said the development showed how regional towns like Drogheda are helping meet housing demand across county boundaries.

“A Meath-based builder has already delivered over 400 homes here and continues to build, which is exactly what we need to see,” he said.

The Tánaiste also noted that HBFI has approved more than €3.3 billion in funding since 2019, supporting close to 17,000 homes nationwide.

During his visit, Mr Harris also attended a youth forum in Dunleer organised by Louth TD Paula Butterly, where students raised issues including housing, mental health and education.

The visit follows the recent inclusion of Drogheda in the Living City Initiative, a measure expected to support regeneration and housing supply in the wider north Meath area.
