Garda-seized gold to be sold at public auction in Dublin
A gold bullion, which was seized by An Garda Síochána, was auctioned this afternoon, on Friday, April 17, at 1.00pm.
The gold was originally seized by the Dublin Crime Response Team in relation to their investigations into organised criminal activity in the Dublin area.
The auction was facilitated by Wilson's Auctions and included various different types of gold, made up of coins and bars.
An Garda Síochána say that this auction forms part of their efforts to disrupt oragnised crime, by removing the financial benefits of it. The proceeds of this auction will be returned to the Exchequer.
Detective Inspector in the Dublin Metropolitan Region said: “Recovering and returning the proceeds of crime is a key part of disrupting organised criminal activity. This auction ensures that seized assets are processed transparently, with all funds ultimately going back to the State where they belong."
Those who are interested in bidding in the auction can look at the catalogue and information at www.wilsonsauction.com. It is open to the public, and people can register via the website.
