New Local Link route planned for Meath communities
Plans for a new Local Link route serving Trim, Rathmolyon, Summerhill, Kilcock, Maynooth, Kilcloon and Dunboyne have received confirmation.
The proposed Route 113 is being developed by Local Link Louth, Meath and Fingal. The Department of Transport and the National Transport Authority are currently considering funding under the Public Service Obligation programme, with the start date subject to final approval.
Fianna Fáil TD for Meath West Aisling Dempsey Dempsey said:
“Local Link services play a vital role in sustaining rural communities, providing reliable public transport for daily travel, particularly for older people, people with disabilities and those without access to a car.
“The inclusion of Summerhill is especially important. It is an area that needs a consistent and dependable service, and many residents, particularly older people, have been calling for better connectivity to Trim.
“Local Link services are a lifeline for communities across Meath, and expanding these routes will make the county more accessible for everyone.”
Funding of €31 million has been secured for the Rural Transport Programme in 2026, a 38% increase on last year, supporting the continued expansion of Local Link services.
185 new or enhanced services have been introduced, connecting more than 240 towns and villages since 2022. These include improved access to healthcare, education and rail services, with over 8 million passenger journeys recorded on Connecting Ireland routes in 2025.
Deputy Dempsey said she would be engaging with the Minister for Transport and the Department to make the case for funding to be allocated so the new route can begin operating.
