€430,000 allocated to path and road upgrades in Dunshaughlin

A total €430,000 has been allocated to paths and roads in Dunshaughlin as part of the Municipal District Works Plan 2026.

This includes €300,000 allocated to traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing at the Tara News junction. These will have a pedestrian crossing and signalised lights and will be completed this year approximately in the next six months.

A further €80,000 is of this is for a pedestrian crossing at Cnoc Tiarnach and the remainder of funds will be for traffic calming measures at the Lagore Road close to Aldi.

Cllr Gerry O’Connor said these works are necessary because “we have an accident waiting to happen.”

Cllr O’Connor said if people coming out of the junction want to turn right “there’s no safe way of getting out.”

“You have an orange box but it’s a very bus road and you have to wait briefly until the pedestrian lights go red before you can get out safely.

“Particularly at pinch times, like school times and evening times when people are coming home from work you could be delayed at that junction for ten to fifteen minutes”.

It is also currently dangerous for pedestrians walking across the road at the junction as there are no lights or zebra crossing.

"We have a lot of children that go up to the national school St Seachnalls, they travel from all parts of the town,” Cllr O’Connor said. “They cant safely cross through that junction if there’s cars there.”

€100,000 worth of funding was also allocated to the Dunshaughlin Western Ringroad for this year as part of the Capital Investment Programme 2026-28. Funding is also being sought for the Outer Relief Road from Junction 6 roundabout to The Willows Residents.
