Man found guilty of theft and burglary in Navan sentenced to four months in jail
A 28 year-old man, Nathan Casserly with an address at Charles Stewart Hotel in Dublin, was sentenced to four months imprisonment at Trim District Court on Tuesday.
The father of one appeared on charges of burglary and theft, which related to dates in December, and involved the stealing of meat and steak and forcing entry into a private residence, the court heard.
Court Presenter Sgt Alan Radcliffe said defendant was identified on CCTV stealing meat items to the value of €50 from a butcher’s shop in Navan Shopping Centre on 4th December.
On 19th December the Garda received a report regarding a disruptive male who was arrested for breaches of public order.
Sgt Radcliffe said that the defendant forced entry into a private residence on Commons Road, Navan and caused extensive damage to the inside of the premises.
The Sergeant recounted a further incident on 19th December when the defendant was identified on CCTV stealing steak to the value of €30.50. The property was not recovered.
The Sergeant added that the defendant had 65 previous convictions for offences that included burglary and thefts.
Defence solicitor Ciara Burke said the defendant struggled with drink and drugs from a young age.
She asked the Judge to give the defendant credit for his early plea of guilty.
