Plans to split the former Argos unit in Navan into three separate units have been granted planning permission by Meath County Council. DTIL Limited, the owner of Navan Town Centre has also been given the green light for amendments to two other vacant units in the shopping centre with one to become a doctors the surgery and the other a sandwich bar.

Last September, DTIL Limited, lodged a planning application seeking permission for the 'NE8' former Argos Unit at Navan Town Centre, Abbey Road, to be split into three units along with associated change of use.

One unit of 77sqm (NE8/A) is proposed as a cafe/restaurant, a second unit of 337sqm (NE8/B) is also proposed for cafe/retaurant use, while the third unit (NE8/C) of 727sqm is proposed for office use. The planning application includes associated modifications to the façade to provide new entrances to the units and remove opacified glass on existing window system.

The unit has lain vacant since British retailers Argos ceased operation there in June 2023.

A separate application by DTIL Limited to change a vacant unit in the shopping centre to a doctor's surgery has also been approved. Planning permission has been granted for the change of use of Unit 42 in Navan Town Centre from retail to doctor’s surgery incorporating two consultation rooms and a reception/waiting area.

The unit also has an external ground floor shopfront onto Kennedy Road with an independent external access door that is used as an alternative means of escape for fire safety and staff access if the shopping mall is closed to the public.

The proposed doctor’s surgery would have two consultation rooms and a reception/waiting area accessed off the Navan Town Centre Mall with four staff members including two GPs and two secretaries.

Meanwhile, a planning application concerning unit 40 has also been granted permission which will see a vacant retail unit become a sandwich bar with sit-down area.

The ground floor, single storey unit of 59.9 sqm is currently vacant and is accessed from the internal Navan Town Centre Shopping Mall. It also has an existing shopfront and access door on the Kennedy Road south elevation. The planning application also included the provision of internal mall and external signage to the Kennedy Road south elevation and all associated works.
