Probation report sought for man on assault charges

Judge Eirinn McKiernan acceded to a request by a defendant’s barrister to seek a probation report on a 45 year-old man who appeared before Trim District Court on assault and other charges.

Mr Niall Gallagher told the Judge that Peter Healy with an address at Draycott Lodge, Bettystown was homeless for a period. He had contacted his GP to deal with addiction issues that brought him before the court.

Sergeant Alan Radcliffe said the assault took place on 2nd December 2023, as a result of which the female victim was left with a red neck and sprained thumb.

The defendant was also before the court on Tuesday for stealing a pedal cycle at Commons Road, Navan in December. He was identified on door camera footage taking the bicycle which was recovered.

He also admitted the theft of two packets of biscuits from an Applegreen store. He had in court €8 compensation which was the value of the goods. One of the packets was recovered in a saleable condition, Sergeant Ratcliffe said.

Judge McKiernan adjourned the case to 10th March next.
