Navan woman jailed for assault

A 29 year-old woman appeared before Trim District Court for what was described by the judge as a "totally unprovoked attack" on a woman.

Jessica Lynch from Tailteann Drive, Navan was in court charged with assault.

The court heard that on 13th July 2024 at Tailteann, Windtown, Ms Lynch began shouting aggressively at the woman before appearing behind her and grabbing her hair. Ms Lynch proceeded to slap the woman in the face.

Ms Lynch did not appear before the court for the hearing of the assault charge on 27th November 2025. She appeared by video link in custody last Thursday (8th January).

Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a four month custodial sentence on Ms Lynch given the circumstances of the case and due to the fact that the defendant had over 40 previous convictions.

Barrister James O'Brien said that the defendant had a long standing history with addiction to heroin and explained how Ms Lynch suffered the loss of her one year-old son and the loss of the child's father around the same time.

He said that Ms Lynch is someone who needs to deal with her addiction difficulties as when she does she is a pleasant person to deal with and is pleasant to the Gardai.

Ms Lynch has engaged with addiction services previously and apologised to the court and to the victim of her attack, admitting she must address her addiction problems.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan stated that the assault was "a very traumatic experience for the injured party".
