New Year Messages: Building homes and inclusive spaces for children and families

Cllr Brian Fitzgerald, Cathaoirleach, Ratoath MD

Happy New Year to all in the Ratoath Municipal District. 2025 saw significant developments in our district, including the opening of 73 apartments at Aylesbury in Clonee, providing modern homes for families and strengthening our growing communities.

The addition of Clonee Playground created a safe and inclusive space for children and families, reflecting our commitment to quality amenities. These projects are part of Meath County Council’s wider housing and community strategy, ensuring that Ratoath MD remains a great place to live and raise a family.

On a personal note, I was delighted to celebrate 40 years of public service on Meath County Council—a journey that began in 1985 when I first took my seat. Over these decades, I’ve had the privilege of working with dedicated colleagues and community members, always with one shared goal: to make Meath a better place for everyone.

Looking ahead to 2026, we will continue to focus on enterprise and job creation through the new Thrive Centre of Business Excellence, while supporting regeneration projects that enhance our towns and villages. Road safety improvements and Active Travel initiatives will make our communities safer and more connected. Climate action and digital transformation will also play a role in shaping a sustainable future for Ratoath MD.

Thank you for your trust and support over the years. Together, we will make 2026 a year of further progress and opportunity.
