David MullenTwo goals in the opening five minutes proved crucial for St Colmcille’s as, for the second time in two years, they defeated Ratoath in the Boys Div 1 final at Trim on Sunday afternoon.
Darragh Geogarty raised the first green flag and soon after, the hard-working Fionn Harte made a powerful run through the middle and finished well to put St Colmcille’s seven points clear after five minutes.
Ratoath eventually settled into the contest as Michael Ryan opened their account. Noah Whelan pulled another back for Ratoath but St Colmcille’s soon cancelled those scores out with two nice points courtesy of Geogarty and Fionn Arkins. At the interval, St Colmcille's led 2-3 to 0-2.
St Colmcille’s started the second half with a flourish and immediately after the restart, Geogarty found the back of the net again. A goal from Luke Mullen gave Ratoath supporters hope.
Alan Mulvaney’s side rallied further with a brace of scores from Ryan and one from Leo Goodall. Rian McGlue put an end to the Ratoath momentum and St Colmcille’s closed out proceedings well.
