Trim man hid groceries under child's buggy
A Trim man in court on several theft charges stole groceries from Choice store in Navan by hiding items underneath a child's buggy.
Patrick Reaney (27), from Castlemeadows Trim was in Trim District Court on 28th October charged with five thefts.
The thefts took place between 29th March last year and 12th July this year across different stores primarily in Navan. This included on 9th August last year when the accused entered Choice store in Navan with a child's buggy and stole over €180 worth of items by placing them underneath the buggy. Other thefts include two packs of Guiness from Centra Blackcastle and €60 worth of alcohol from Tesco Navan, €121 worth of items from Aldi Navan, and three pairs of shoes worth €141 from another store in Navan.
Mr Reaney has 44 previous convictions with the most recent being on 16th October this year for theft where he was given a two months prison sentence.
The defence told the court Mr Reaney is set to be released 6th May next year and he had drink and drug problems during this period of thefts but was sober prior to custody and wants to start fresh following his release.
Judge Derek Cooney told the court he did not want to further extend his time in custody and sentenced Mr Heaney to six months in prison starting on 28th October.
