Gearoid O’Malley has been in excellent form for St Michael’s.

Oldcastle to pip inconsistent St Michael's

IFC QUARTER-FINAL PREVIEW

Joe Sheridan’s Oldcastle have been motoring along quite nicely and despite their slight hiccup in their final group game against Longwood, the north Meath men will be happy with how their side have been performing in the IFC, writes Tom Gannon.

Of course, the ever-reliable Jason Scully is the main attraction but the likes of Pearse Sheridan, Oran Mulvanny and Lee Healy offer alternative attacking options in a well-balanced side. They’ve been knocking on the door for a few years now and they haven't really been able to break through what is always a tough competitive championship.

St Michael’s were part of that hotly contested mad Group C where you never knew what way results were going to go. All credit to them for getting out of the group ahead of two very talented sides in Duleek-Bellewstown and Navan O’Mahonys.

When it mattered most, St Michael’s produced a performance and they were impressive against Duleek-Bellewstown. However, this is the same St Michael’s side who shipped four goals and were soundly beaten by a Navan O’Mahonys side who finished bottom of the table.

Depending on what version of St Michael’s decides to turn up on the day, they have a chance but Oldcastle have been a fair bit more consistent than their opponents. If St Michael’s play like they did the last day against Duleek-Bellewstown, it’ll be a tight game in a crunch scenario, you’d still expect Oldcastle to come out on top at Ballinlough on Saturday evening.

Prediction - Oldcastle.
