“We are where we want to be now and we want to get better and better"
Paul Galvin is getting his Ratoath side ready for a local clash with Donaghmore/Ashbourne in the SFC Quarter-Final.
Kerry legend and Ratoath manager, Paul Galvin, was pleased with the way his side comfortably dispatched of St Colmcille’s on Saturday. Speaking to the Meath Chronicle, the former Footballer of the Year spoke about the improvement in his team, following their opening two games against Ballinabrackey and Seneschalstown. Galvin was particularly pleased with how Ratoath took their chances early on.
“I think we put in a good performance overall. We were probably unhappy with our last two performances to be honest, we were patchy in both of those games. When we were good, we were very good but we lost our way for periods of time in those games which you can’t afford. Regarding Saturday, though, you’d have to be happy.” said Galvin
“We started very well, and we did that in the other two games as well but we left loads of chances behind us. We scored 1-4 after 15 minutes in the other two games but we missed plenty of chances. On Saturday, we had 3-4 on the board after 10 minutes. We just needed to take our chances from the start we did that.”
The Finuge club man always has a lot of respect for Meath football and admired Sean Boylan’s team of the 90’s. He is highly optimistic about the standard of football in the county at the moment.
“Meath is a great footballing county. I have a lot of respect for Meath football and that team of the 90’s under Sean Boylan was a big influence on me. It’s great to be involved in it and obviously at the moment, football is on the rise in the county and there is fantastic talent around the place”.
Galvin said that his side will need to continue to improve as the SFC moves into the knock-out stages. They will now face Donaghmore/Ashbourne in the quarter final on Sunday the 14th of September at 3.30 pm
“We are where we want to be now and we want to get better and better. We showed on Saturday how good we can be but we need to put it together for 60 minutes. If we are going to have a say in the championship, we are going to have to produce what we did against St Colmcille's and more.”
