What it's all about... Two 'rival' fans struck up a special moment in Croke Park
Amidst the drama and joy of Meath's thrilling All-Ireland SFC quarter-final victory over Galway on Sunday, a lovely moment played out between two passionate GAA supporters at Croke Park.
Kells man, Tommy Mongey (29), who never misses a Meath game was engrossed in the Royals efforts to overthrow the Tribesmen and as the clock ticked down to the hooter the tension was almost unbearable.
Sat beside him in the Hogan Stand was young Jack Rogan (10), from Rathmore in Kerry, there to cheer on idol David Clifford and the Kingdom in the second match of the day and their quarter final against Armagh.
Tommy gave the young Kerry fan his Meath cap for luck and said he'd get it back "when the two sides meet in the final".
In a video captured by Jack's mum, Louise both fans hugged and embraced after the Royals 2-16 to 2-15 win and according to the Kerry lad's mum, the youngster went to bed that night wearing the lucky hat he got from Tommy.
Meath have the small matter of beating Donegal in the semi-final on Sunday week while Kerry will have to overcome Tyrone if Tommy and Jack are to have that lucky hat handover but both supporters will be praying it happens.
The support of the Royal army wasn't lost on Meath manager Robbie Brennan who does not under estimate the impact the fans have on his team and the joy his side are giving to the supporters.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath's of Meath's epic win, Brennan described the support of the Royal army as "exceptional".
“We were coming in again with the Garda escort and it was just mental, heading down the Navan Road when the cars are beeping and everything.
Then you get here and it's time to throw-in, and it was packed, it makes the whole thing special.
"Anyone who's been at any of the big games, I think it makes a huge difference to the occasion. Win or lose, even the Leinster Final was an amazing occasion.
"If anyone has holidays booked, please, God, just change them, and we'll see you in a couple of weeks with a bit of luck."
