Driver charged with careless driving after collision with pedestrian in Dunshaughlin

A 27 year-old chemical factory worker took fright and collided with a female pedestrian when a car behind beeped and the defendant took off and drove through a red light at a pedestrian crossing, Trim District Court heard.

Bhavankumar Vangara with an address at Dunville Way, Johnstown was prosecuted following the incident at Main Street, Dunshaughlin on 22nd January last. The injured party was stated to have suffered bruising, and escaped major injury.

Defence solicitor Miriam Regan said the defendant was in the jurisdiction three and a half years without attracting adverse attention. She explained how a car behind beeped and the defendant took off.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan commented she was “not happy” with the driving .

Miss Regan said the defendant was not happy himself and that was why he instructed her to plead guilty.

The defendant had paid for a valid insurance policy but was not accompanied.

Judge McKiernan convicted and fined the defendant €250 on a charge of careless driving. She warned him before he went back on the road to make sure he had a full driving licence.
