Annual Ashbourne recycling day approaches
A MAJOR recycling day will take place in Ashbourne Retail Park on Saturday (19th September), where tonnes of waste are expected to be recycled.
The Ashbourne Community Recycling Day is organised by Cllr Joe Bonner who has been running these recycling days for the past 21 years.
“We started the initiative with a small group of dedicated volunteers after recognising the need for a convenient and affordable recycling service for local communities,” says Cllr Bonner.
“What began as a local initiative has grown into a national award-winning event. Over the past 21 years, we have organised events across Meath East, collecting more than 3,070 tonnes of recyclable and household materials. These events have helped thousands of residents dispose of items responsibly, increased environmental awareness and reduced the amount of bulky waste dumped along roadsides, in drains and in ditches.
“As we celebrate 21 years of recycling, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported the initiative, particularly our volunteers. Their dedication, hard work and generosity have been essential to the success of every event. Special thanks are also due to our service providers, Thornton’s Recycling and ERP, who have partnered with us since day one. Their professionalism and commitment have played a vital role in delivering a high-quality service. I would like to thank everyone who has helped make these community events such a success, the community, for your continued support,” he said.
The Community Recycling Day takes place between 8am and 4pm on Saturday 19th September in the Ashbourne Retail Park
Items accepted include bulky household waste, including furniture, mattresses, and other large household items.
Modest charges apply to bulky waste.
They will accept all types of electrical and electronic waste – fridges, freezers, computers, TVs, batteries (big and small), used vapes, and more.
