Top of the bill...New jersey marks 40 years of Slane concerts

As Slane Concert returns for the first year since 2023, sports manufacturer O’Neills have released a special edition jersey to celebrate the historic music venue.

The collaboration between O’Neills and Slane Castle is the first between the pair, but is not the first to combine sports and music.

Bohemian Football Club in Dublin broke the internet when they featured the late Bob Marley on their away strip in 2022 to commemorate the reggae artist’s 1980 concert at Dalymount Park. Now, Slane Castle is also being featured on a football kit, as O’Neills said, “40+ years of unforgettable music. One iconic jersey.

“Inspired by over four decades of unforgettable performances, this exclusive design brings together the atmosphere, history and energy that have made Slane Castle legendary.”

The purple and blue colours on the jersey were set to represent the stage lights on display for concerts at Slane Castle, while the black on the kit represents the ‘Roll of Honour’. The back of the jersey then lists all of the acts, including support, to have played Slane.

Also included in the kit are small details and nods to the concert, such as old concert tickets and photos of crowds of the past.

The crest of the kit symbolises Slane Castle and the Conyngham family, with a double C accompanied by a crown.

In another detail, O’Neills featured the late Lord Henry Mount Charles’ signature, as the brand gave acknowledgement to the man who orchestrated so many iconic concerts over the decades.

The jerseys are available to purchase online for €75, with sizes ranging from small the 3XL.
