Growing strong... Official opening of new polytunnel at St Dympna’s NS
June marked a special occasion for the pupils, staff, parents and wider community of St Dympna's National School, Kildalkey, with the official opening of the school's new polytunnel and sensory learning space.
This exciting project has been made possible through the generosity and support of many individuals and organisations within the local community. The school extends its sincere thanks to Meath County Council, Ballivor Credit Union, numerous local businesses and families who contributed so generously towards bringing this vision to life.
A special word of appreciation is due to Colm Warren, whose expertise, commitment and hard work were instrumental in the success of the project. Colm designed and constructed the polytunnel, along with the raised planting beds and sand pit within the space, creating an engaging and enriching environment that will benefit generations of pupils.
The new facility will provide children with valuable opportunities to learn about nature, gardening, sustainability and sensory play in a hands-on and enjoyable setting.
The school would also like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of the Parents' Association, whose dedication, determination and vision transformed a dream into a reality.
Through their fundraising efforts, planning and unwavering support, they played a central role in delivering a facility that will have a lasting impact on the school community.
The sensory room and polytunnel stand as a testament to their commitment and will be a lasting legacy for the students of St Dympna's NS for many years to come.
The official opening was a celebration of community spirit, collaboration and shared ambition. It highlighted what can be achieved when local organisations, businesses, families and volunteers come together to support the education and wellbeing of young people.
The entire school community is looking forward to seeing the polytunnel flourish and to the many learning opportunities it will provide for pupils in the years ahead.
