Clonard residents frustration over continued water supply issues
Residents of Clonard have reported issues with their supply over the past week with one caller to RTE's Liveline voicing her frustration, saying she and her young family had been three days without water.
Liz Broderick outlined that there have been 184 water outages in her area since March 2024 and that there was an issue with a local pumphouse failing.
She said residents were picking up the phone daily to alert Uisce Éireann to the problems but felt they were not being prioritised.
In a statement on Friday evening, Uisce Éireann said it is aware of reports of water supply issues affecting some customers in Clonard.
"While we have no records indicating outages lasting longer than several hours recently, we have escalated it to our crews to carry out further investigation. A safe and reliable water supply is essential for daily life, and we apologise to customers where issues arise and have impacted."
The spokesperson went on to say that supply in Clonard is provided by a local water treatment plant serving nearby housing estates.
"Our operational teams continue to monitor the plant’s performance closely and respond where needed. Additional works at the plant to improve reliability and resilience have taken place which will improve the level of service to customers.
"Plans are now being progressed for a new borehole and connection to the wider network, this will however take some time given the complexity of the works needed. In the meantime, and recognising the disruption currently being experienced by some customers, we will be exploring a range of shorter-term measures to limit outages and improve resilience.
"We would ask customers experiencing issues to contact Uisce Éireann’s customer care team, available 24/7, so that we can respond as quickly as possible and provide support where needed.
“We would also encourage customers to sign up to our free text alert system to get real-time updates for local issues. Customers can sign up at www.water.ie"
