Sentenced but sentence served
A 44-year-old man, who, according to his solicitor needs treatment for psychosis and not to be in a prison setting, had his case concluded for assaulting two elderly men in Ashbourne and public disorder at a Garda station.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan sentenced Bartosz Golonka, with an address at Cluain Ri, Ashbourne to six months in prison, but backdated the sentence comprised of consecutive terms of two and four months to last July. This means he has already served the sentence.
The defendant had been in custody since then. The assaults on the elderly gentlemen took place in Ashbourne on 11th March last year.
Judge McKiernan in handing out the sentences at Trim District on Tuesday took into account the impact of the assaults on the two victims, aged between 70 and 80.
The court heard one had a heart operation and was now afraid to go down the main street, especially at night. The other victim said he was very shocked by the assault and avoided the main street and would never forget what happened.
