Royal Camogs secure land for new pitch

Meath Camogie's fundraiser "Your plastic is our pitch" has been instrumental in securing funding for the venture.

Meath Camogie have officially announced the official signing and purchase of land adjacent to Dunganny GAA Centre of Excellence which they intend to use for their own pitch.

The fundraiser known as “your plastic is our pitch” played a huge role in securing the land as it raised over €270,000.

Sponsors Noel and Valerie Moran initiated the process and in a statement released by Meath camogie on Tuesday, the county board sincerely thanked Bective Stud’s owners for their support.

“We are sincerely grateful for the unwavering support and generosity shown by Noel and Valerie Moran with Your Plastic Is Our Pitch and as main sponsors of our adult section, and indeed everyone at Bective Tea Rooms, whose commitment and dedication have been instrumental in helping us reach this milestone.”

“We also wish to acknowledge Joanne Rice and Dillon Geraghty Solicitors for her time, patience, and professionalism throughout the process, along with our dedicated committee members, steering group and the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly from the very beginning.

While this achievement marks a significant step forward, our work is far from complete; in many respects, it is only the beginning. The successful repayment of our loan relies on the continued support. Now more than ever, we ask our clubs, supporters, businesses, and wider community to stand behind this project and play a part in creating history for Meath Camogie.

“We encourage everyone to continue returning bottles and cans, and to appeal to members to volunteer for concerts like EP, projects within their club, and many other events, as these efforts will help secure a lasting future for generations of female athletes in Meath. Our first collection at a concert in 2026 is on 30th and 31st May in The Royal Hospital, Dublin, and we are looking for volunteers. If you are available or interested in volunteering at this or any of our concerts or events, please contact your club, or you can email secretary.meath@camogie.ie or pro.meath@camogie.ie. (Over 18s only)”

“We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our incredible volunteers, clubs, and businesses who have worked so diligently collecting and returning bags to Bective Stud. Your efforts form the backbone of our repayment plan and are deeply appreciated. To date, we have raised over €270,000 (935,000 units) through the collection of return bottles and cans. Notably, in the purchase of the land for €400,000, we were able to contribute an impressive €200,000 towards the purchase price through proceeds generated from the return bottles and cans initiative."

“As we move forward into the next phase of development, we will also be seeking skilled individuals to assist with the administration, planning, and consultancy required for the development of the new pitch and facilities, if you can support us in this area, we would love to chat with you on the above emails.”
