Blue Flag success for Bettystown Beach again
Bettystown Beach has once again been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag, marking the third year in a row that the beach has achieved the internationally recognised standard for water quality, safety, environmental management and amenities.
In further good news for the area, both Bettystown and Mornington beaches have also been awarded Green Flag status for 2026, recognising their continued commitment to high environmental standards and excellent local stewardship.
Welcoming the announcement, Cllr Sharon Tolan said:
“This is fantastic news for Bettystown and Mornington and something our whole community can be proud of. Securing a Blue Flag for the third consecutive year is a real achievement and reflects the ongoing hard work that goes into maintaining Bettystown Beach to such a high standard.
The additional Green Flag awards for both Bettystown and Mornington further underline the commitment locally to protecting our coastline, enhancing biodiversity and ensuring these beaches remain clean, safe and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.”
Cllr Tolan paid tribute to Meath County Council staff, local volunteers, community groups and Clean Coast initiatives who work year‑round to protect and enhance the local environment.
“These awards don’t happen by accident. They are the result of consistent effort, strong cooperation and genuine community pride in our coastline. From beach clean‑ups to environmental awareness and ongoing maintenance, there is a huge amount of work happening behind the scenes. I want to particularly thank Bettystown Tidy Towns and Mornington Tidy Towns for their continued hard work and commitment to our beaches. ”
The Blue Flag and Green Flag awards are expected to further enhance the appeal of Bettystown and Mornington as destinations for families, walkers, swimmers and visitors throughout the summer season, while also reinforcing the importance of sustainable coastal management.
“Our beaches are among our greatest natural assets. Protecting them while making them accessible and enjoyable for everyone is essential, and these awards show that we are moving in the right direction,” Cllr Tolan added.
