Chalk Talk Special: So much more than a school... St Oliver's celebrates 50 years

AISHLING MONAGHAN - CHALK TALK EDITOR

Fifty years ago, in October 1975, the Meath Chronicle reported on the opening and blessing of a new school in Blackcastle that reflected both of a growing town and a community investing in its future.

St Oliver’s, a 16-classroom building constructed at a cost of £190,000, was described at the time as a modern response to the educational needs of an expanding Navan.

But St Oliver’s was always more than just a school, it was the heart of a close-knit community. Surrounded by the homes and families of Blackcastle, Clusker Park, Aisling Place, Proudstown Road, St Mary's Park, Troytown Heights and Simonstown, the school grew alongside the area it served.

It was a shared space where neighbours became friends and generations stayed connected.
