Killyon climbers to tackle four peaks challenge
Killyon Hurling and Camogie Club's upcoming fundraiser on the May Bank Holiday is more then a challenge, it is a test of endurance that will push their members to their limits.
For this exciting challenge 40 club members will climb four stunning mountain peaks over 48 hours, starting with Slieve Donard in Down at 8am on Saturday 2nd May.
Then the team will head down the road to Lugnaquille in Wicklow, where they hope to complete the climb by 7.30pm Saturday evening.
From steep ascents to scenic ridgelines no two climbs will be the same.
The next climb will be perhaps the most challenging, Carrauntoohil in Kerry. This climb will be done during the night, hoping to be down by 5am on Sunday morning.
Aches will begin to set in at this stage, a bed would be nice but not for the Killyon climbers.
They must sleep on the bus as they take the long trip up to Mweelrea in Mayo for the final climb.
Every donation and sponsorship raised will fuel a real impact for the Hill of Down club and also for Meath River Rescue to who they are donating 20% of funds raised.
Meath River Rescue is a volunteer-based emergency service. They are on call 24/7, relying heavily on trained volunteers who give their time freely. Their work can be demanding and sometimes tragic, but it is a critical service that fills a gap alongside the Gardai, Fire Brigade and Ambulance Service.
For Killyon, they we hope to continue the development of their new adult and juvenile training pitches. Their aim this year is to get goal posts, ball nets and toilet facilities in place.
The club have set up a GoFundMe page and their Facebook page has a link to all donation options, including a QR code. They wish to thank all who have supported them in all their fund raising which helps them to continue to develop their Hurling and Camogie club.
