Community Games Swimming Finals in Kells

There was a fantastic atmosphere at Kells Swimming Pool on Sunday, 12th April, as young swimmers from across the county came together for the Meath Community Games Swimming Finals.

The event was full of energy, excitement and great sportsmanship, with families and supporters turning out in strong numbers to cheer on the competitors.

One of the highlights this year was the introduction of a new 'Learn to Compete Gala,' held in advance of the County Finals.

The idea behind it was simple — to help swimmers get familiar with how competitions work — but it made a real difference.

Many of the swimmers arrived on the day feeling more confident and relaxed, which meant they could focus on enjoying their races as much as competing in them.

Event Organiser Sarah Reilly was delighted with how the day unfolded: “It was great to see so many young competitors taking part, eager to compete and to meet up with their swimming peers from across the county who share a love of the water.”

Medals on the day were presented by Hannah Cassidy, who was invited following her gold medal win in the Under 16 B/C Finals at last year’s National Games. A familiar face to many, she continues to be a real inspiration to younger swimmers coming through.

Hannah said: “It was really special to be asked to present the medals. I do feel a bit sad that I won’t be competing this year, but I’m delighted that my younger sister Ella has qualified, and I’m really looking forward to cheering her on at the National Finals.”

There were plenty of proud moments for swimmers on the day, including Ruby Foley, who qualified in the Under 10 girls backcrawl:

“I’m extremely proud to be representing the county at the National Finals in Kilkenny, and I’m delighted that my sister Ella also qualified.”

The Under 13 Girls Relay Winners- first were Kells, Navan in second place and Ratoath in third place.

Fionn Lynch, who secured qualification in the Under 14 boys B/F event, is already thinking ahead: “I’m going to ramp up my training ahead of the National Finals, and I’m thrilled to have qualified.”

Overall, it was a hugely enjoyable and successful day, with a real sense of community throughout. The standard of swimming was impressive, but just as importantly, the event gave young athletes the chance to build confidence, make friends and enjoy the experience.

Best of luck to all those who will go on to represent Meath at the National Finals in Kilkenny.
