Last adjournment before direction in drugs case
Judge Eirinn McKiernan acceded to a last adjournment to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions provide directions in the case of three Vietnamese nationals charged in respect of drugs with an estimated value of over €500,000.
This was in relation to Lee Duan (43), Vohan Huan (40), and Van Vu Nguyen (20) each of no fixed abode in Trim District Court.
Judge McKiernan gave the state a further month and said she would strike out the charges if the directions were not available then. She adjourned the case to 12th May next. Defence barrister James O’Brien applied for the charges to be struck out at Trim District Court on Tuesday.
His colleague Niall Gallagher, who also opposed the move to adjourn the case, pointed out that it was the ninth time before the court.
A Detective involved in the investigation, explained the difficulties involved with the three accused having zero English and background checks to be made all over the world.
Judge McKiernan agreed to put the case back due to the complexity of the issues and seriousness of the offences.
The three accused men face charges that include possession and cultivation of cannabis, and possession of the drug for sale or supply at Kells Road, Oldcastle on 7th April last year.
