'It's Good to Talk' out in Bohermeen... Drama group's night of three one-act plays

'It's Good to Talk'... That's the message being delivered by the Bohermeen Amateur Dramatics Association ahead of two fun-filled nights of hilarious, thought-provoking and poignant one-act plays that will have everyone talking, and laughing!

The May Bank Holiday weekend performances will be the fourth major outing for the drama group that launched in 2023 when they lifted the curtain on an eclectic mix of comedy sketches and one-act play that packed out Bohermeen community centre.

BadAss returns to the community centre stage on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May with a new selection of specially curated pieces they hope will bring the house down. 'It's Good to Talk' links themes of conversation, communication and connection with three superb one-act plays opening with 'When I Snap My Fingers' - a rip-roaring farce written by Bruce Adam and directed here by Andrea Molloy.

Simon and Maria Moffat agree to undergo hypnosis as part of a performer's act, but a rogue fire alarm sounds before the effect of certain trigger words are removed, leading to a series of chaotic and hilarious mishaps.

The cast includes, Fiona Boylan, Gavan Becton, Kayleigh Barrett, Joe O'Reilly, Cathal O'Reilly, Linda Boylan, Audrey Gaffney and Julie Yore.

The second production is 'New Mums and Little Bums', described as an emotional rollercoaster, which is directed by Jimmy Smyth and centres around a group of frazzled new mums (and one bewildered dad) and their little bundles of joy attending a new mother and baby class with eccentric teacher Muireann.

This cast includes Julie Ann Marley, Geraldine McHugh, Kevin McCormack, Mary Leahy and Andrea Foster.

Finally, BadAss is delighted to welcome Pat Farrell and Patricia Ronayne of the Selection Box Drama Group performing Pat's wonderfully evocative 'Wait for Me to Come Home'. The Mick Roban directed piece has been performed at a number of venues across the county this year already to great acclaim.

BadAss Artistic Directors Jimmy Smith and Andrea Molloy say the cast, with some new faces on board are thrilled to be back together and busy running lines for what they hope will be a joyous weekend.

"We've had so much fun doing these shows and have been boosted by the tremendous reaction and feedback we've received and we hope to really deliver the goods again this May," says Jimmy, who is also an integral part of the Navan Theatre Group which recently staged the brilliant 'Noises Off' production over four nights at Solstice Arts Centre.

"The casts of both our one-act plays have put in a tremendous amount of work on what will be our most ambitious productions yet," adds Andrea.

"There is a real warmth about all the pieces that will be performed on the night and no shortage of laughs and maybe the odd tear. We hope as many people will come and cheer on the cast and crew and we're also delighted to able to support a great cause in the Sharon Ball Appeal.

"Sharon is a very popular local woman and a wife and mother of three children living very close to the Bohermeen Community Centre and in all our thoughts as she recovers after receiving life-saving treatment in the US. We're delighted to help in any way we can."

'It's Good to Talk' is on in Bohermeen Community Centre on Saturday May 2nd and Sunday May 3rd at 8pm sharp and there will be a raffle and interval refreshments also.

Tickets are on sale at just €10 each and available from Leahy's Mace Newgate, McHugh's pub in Greetiagh and Nearby, Allenstown or through the drama group's facebook page and cast members and it promises to be a wonderful evening.
