Chalk Talk: Schools united for 400-year celebration
There was great excitement this week as the sixth classes of St. Oliver Plunkett NS, Navan, travelled to Kilcloon NS for a very special joint celebration marking 400 years since the birth of St. Oliver Plunkett, patron saint of both schools.
On arrival, the Navan pupils were met with a wonderful VIP welcome from Mr Keogan, his staff, and the students of Kilcloon NS, who opened their doors for a day of shared learning and celebration.
There was a beautifully prepared commemorative Mass, celebrated by Fr Declan and Fr Noel, with music provided by students from both schools. Pupils honoured the legacy of St Oliver, a figure who continues to shape the identity of both school communities.
The visit was also the culmination of weeks of learning. Pupils from Mr Ryan’s and Mr Carley’s 6th classes in St Olivers Navan had completed extensive History and Religion projects on the life and times of St. Oliver Plunkett. Their work included timelines, biographical studies, presentations, and creative art pieces.
Both schools have been building anticipation in recent weeks, sharing updates and messages of welcome. Principal Ken Keogan said “It’s 400 years since St. Oliver Plunkett was born. Our school classes have been busy learning about his life and are looking forward to a special joint celebration of this great figure with St. Oliver Plunkett NS in Navan.
With the milestone now marked in such a meaningful way, both school communities leave this week with a deeper connection to their patron saint and to each other.
