Funeral arrangements made for truck driver who died in fatal collision

The truck driver who died following a collision at Ballinderry, Enfield, yesterday morning has been named locally as Denis Larrissey of Donore, Longwood.

There was widespread shock and sadness in the Longwood and Killyon communities and surrounding area to learn of Mr Larrissey's passing in a single-vehicle collision yesterday morning.

Funeral arrangements for Mr Larrissey were announced this morning with his Funeral Mass to take place on Monday. He will be reposing at Mc Evoy's Funeral Home Trim from 4pm to 7pm tomorrow (Saturday) with removal to take place to St Mary’s Church of the Assumption, Longwood, on Monday 14th July for Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Mr Larrissey will be laid to rest afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Local councillor Joe Fox has paid tribute to Mr Larrissey describing him as a lovely man who was very well respected in the area. "I knew him well. He was a local businessman, a lovely man. It is a terrible tragedy."

He added that Mr Larrissey ran a tyre and haulage business in the area for many years and was very well known and well respected. He offered his deepest sympathy to Mr Larrissey's wife Bernie and family.

Another local councillor, Padraig Coffey, offered his condolences to Mr Larrissey's family on their loss and said his thoughts were with them at this sad time.

Tributes and messages of condolences have also flooded in on local Longwood Parish Facebook page and also on RIP.ie where Mr Larrissey was described as a true gentleman.

Mr Larrissey is survived by his wife Bernie, daughters Debbie and Jenny, son Luke, sons-in-law Michael and Emmet and daughter-in-law Niamh, grandchildren, James, Jonny, Robert, Adriana, Harry, Rían, Louie, Devin and Brí, brothers, Jimmy and Paul, sisters Margaret and Terry, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and friends.

Meanwhile, investigations are continuing into the single vehicle collision which occurred on the L2226 at Ballinderry, Enfield, at approximately 5am yesterday morning.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 4.30am and 5.30am on the morning of Thursday 10th July 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
