Kilskyre NS sporting successes celebrated
Kilskyre NS has had a very successful year across different sports. Their first ever girls Cumann na mBunscol football team got to a semi-final and faced a very strong Killyon. In November, the boys won the Division 5 Cumann na mBunscol Football title for the second year in a row. A week later, they came second in the All-Meath Mini 7s hurling competition, after winning the previous stages. In April, one team came runner up in the small school final of the FAI 5-a-side soccer after winning their preliminary day of competition. In June, the boys and girls of the school Division 4 hurling team won the final against Kiltale NS. This win was dedicated to their late teammate Tom Lynch. These teams were under the guidance of their teachers Sinéad Lemass and Emma Dowd and the additional coaching of parents.
On 19th June, Ms Lemass organised a ‘Sporting Celebration’ ceremony to celebrate the successful sporting year of 2024-2025.
All the above mentioned teams were invited and presented with a collage of team photos each. The recently hurling champions were presented with their medals also. Local sporting heroes and county players Sean Geraghty, Darren O’Higgins and Tom Shine presented the children with these.
Tom Shine, a past pupil of Kilskyre NS, was on the last team in the school to win the hurling championship in 2016. Ms Lemass thanked the families for supporting the children in all their matches, and thanked Kilskyre hurling and Ballinlough football clubs for encouraging the children from grassroots and how the success is a collaboration of school and club.
