East coast schools visit for Sinn Fein leader

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald TD met with schools, educators, and parents across Laytown to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing education.

Mary Lou McDonald, along with Meath East TD, Darren O’Rourke and local Cllr Maria White, visited Scoil An Spioraid Naoimh primary school, Laytown, Scoil Oilibhéir Naofa Primary school in Bettystown and Laytown/Bettystown Youthreach on 9th May. The delegation met with teachers, Special Needs Assistants (SNAs), caretakers, secretaries and parents to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the education sector.

Darren O’Rourke praised the dedication of the staff across the schools and highlighted the vital role of education in shaping young people’s lives.

“From teachers and SNAs to secretaries and caretakers, every member of the school community plays a crucial role in delivering quality education.”

“We were greeted by an enthusiastic staff and students in all facilities, and a special mention to Scoil An Spioraid Naoimh’s wonderful Marching Band.

“The passion and commitment of staff in Laytown’s schools and educational centres is inspiring. However, chronic underfunding and supports for staff and students remain key concerns.”
