15 new beds for Navan Hospital
An additional 15 beds have been announced for Our Lady's Hospital, Navan under the new Acute Inpatient Bed Capacity Expansion Plan 2024-2031.
The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly has today announced an additional 623 beds for the Dublin North East healthcare region, including 112 new beds for Our Lady's Hospital, Drogheda.
The new beds form part of a major national plan which marks the biggest expansion of bed capacity in the health service in several decades, with a total of 3,352 additional acute inpatient beds planned for delivery across three tranches up to 2031.
It has been introduced in response to the ongoing Health Service Capacity Review and aims to bring the number of beds in HSE Dublin and North East from 2.3 per 100,000 people to 2.6. It also delivers on the Minister’s commitment to ensure balanced regional bed capacity and to ensure patients across Ireland have equity of access.
The plan includes: 232 new beds in Beaumont Hospital, 74 new beds in Cavan Monaghan General Hospital,112 new beds in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, 15 new beds in Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, 133 new beds in Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and 63 new beds in Connelly Hospital Dublin.
The plan does not include rehab, subacute or specialist beds.
Minister Donnelly said: “I am delighted to be announcing this landmark expansion of hospital beds across eight hospitals in the Dublin and North East region. This investment recognises that our growing and ageing population are placing more demands on our healthcare services and I am determined to drive forward with expansion that ensures people have access to the right care in the right place at the right time.
“This ambitious plan will be delivered in phases, with extensive additional capacity planned for Beaumont and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and further increases planned in hospitals across the region.
“These are significant expansions that aim to deliver increased capacity in order to better meet the needs of the population across the North Dublin, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth areas,” he said.
