Dunboyne tennis teams look back on two smashing campaigns
Meath club continues to make impact
Those involved with Dunboyne Tennis Club continue to make an impact - no matter what the season.
While tennis is a sport normally associated with summer those involved with Dunboyne TC didn't need the heat of the sun or the bright summer days to inspire them to success.
Recently a collection of talented players from two Dunboyne teams made their mark in the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Winter League finals which were held at Portmarnock Tennis Club with the ladies winning their section and the men finishing runners-up in their category.
The women's team (one) was led by captain Elaine McGrath and also included Liz Whoriskey, Kay Malone, Kirsty Grindon, Rachel Condon and Sue Ronan.
They defeated St Anne's Park 2-1 in the final to claim the big prize while the men's selection narrowly lost out 2-1 to Shankill in their decider.
The men's Dunboyne (three) team consisted of Dragan Padavan, David McGoldrick, Declan O’Farrell, Brendan Geoghegan, Paul Reynolds and Dave Kennedy.
"The Dublin Lawn Tennis Council runs various leagues throughout the year. Summer, autumn and winter leagues for players ranging from class one to class eight," explained Dunboyne Tennis Club PRO Liz Whoriskey.
"This gives players of all abilities to compete against others similar to their own level. Usually there are around 48/50 clubs from throughout Dublin, Meath , Wicklow and Kildare participating. It’s conducted by a points system per match," she added.
"Whichever team accumulates the most wins in their group goes forward for the play-offs (last 16), then on to the quarter-finals (last eight) , semis and then finals.
"Overall it was a great campaign for Dunboyne Tennis Club, having two teams reaching the Winter League finals in 2024."
