Lynch and Frayne graduate onto Rising Stars Team of the Year

Two Meath players included in high class team

Meath players Aaron Lynch and Eoghan Frayne have been included on the 2024 Electric Ireland GAA Higher Education Rising Stars Football Team of the Year.

The Rising Stars are picked from the various college sides that participated in this season's Higher Education Sigerson Cup.

Lynch, who turned out for University College Dublin in the Sigerson Cup, has been chosen at left-wing-forward with his ability to create and take scores recognised with his selection.

Summerhill's Eoghan Frayne has also made into the Rising Stars team after a series of consistent and impressive displays for Maynooth University. Frayne has been picked at right-wing-forward.

Selection on the Rising Stars team is a formidable achievement by both players as some of the top young footballing talent in the country are also included.

Both are likely to feature in Meath's forthcoming Leinster SFC clash with Longford.

During this year’s championship Ulster University (UU) took home the Sigerson Cup title for the first time since 2008 after defeating Lynch's team, University College Dublin (UCD), in the final at Austin Stack Park, Tralee.

Ulster University had a strong start to the final, quickly scoring three goals to set up a staggering 11-point lead over their Dublin opponents.

However, UCD continued to battle until the final whistle sounded, closing the deficit to six points at full-time. A man of the match performance from Darragh Canavan, with significant contributions from brother Ruairí, ultimately sealed the competition for the Belfast side.

In this year’s Electric Ireland GAA Higher Education Rising Stars 2024 Football Team of the Year, Sigerson Cup champions, UU, have seven players included on the team.

Beaten finalists UCD have five representatives on the team. Beaten semi-finalists, University of Limerick (UL) have two players while Maynooth University have a single player included - Frayne.
