Prestigious industry award for Keegan Quarries

John Sisk & Son recognises and rewards excellence

Local company Keegan Quarries has scooped the 'Supplier of the Year' Award for Ireland at the prestigious Sisk Supply Chain Awards 2023, held recently at the Convention Centre, Dublin.

The awards recognise and appreciate excellence across Sisk’s entire supply chain and the event has grown to be one of the biggest occasions in Irish construction, with over 900 people in attendance. The gala ceremony brought Sisk's Irish, UK and European supply chain partners together, with 200 of its subcontractors and suppliers shortlisted for awards and 19 winners announced.

"We are thrilled to have been named Irish Supplier of the Year. We would like to thank everyone on the team at Keegan Quarries for making this achievement possible – we couldn’t have done this without their continued hard work and dedication. We would also like to thank John Sisk & Son Ltd for organising the evening to celebrate excellence across their supply chain," said Managing Director, John Keegan.

Keegan Quarries Ltd, a division of the Keegan Group, was first established in 1990 to supply sand and aggregates to the Meath and Dublin region.

The company began producing ready mix concrete in 1999 and since then has expanded into concrete block manufacturing, precast wall and floor manufacturing and most recently, producing Calcium Carbonate.

Keegan Quarries Ltd manufactures ready-mix concrete, trowel ready mortar, stone, aggregates, sand and gravel, fill products, blocks, precast panels and agricultural lime to customers in the commercial and domestic markets in Counties Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath and Offaly.

They recently expanded with the opening of a new location in Duleek and have ambitious plans to develop this site in the future by establishing a ready-mix plant and a block making facility. The strategic location will open up new areas for the company in North Meath, Louth and the greater Dublin area.

Keegan Quarries' company sources all aggregates and sand from its own quarries for its concrete batching plants.

"All blocks are manufactured at our concrete plant located at our head office in Trammon, Rathmolyon. Our aggregates carry the CE Mark and declarations of performance for every grade of aggregate or fill material. All our stone products are fully certified, tested and pyrite free, and our concrete is produced to EN206 Standards (European Concrete Standard)," explained Mr Keegan.

Keegan Quarries Ltd operate across a variety of sectors including commercial and residential, infrastructure, agricultural, and specialise in trowel ready mortar.

Other companies under the Keegan Group are Keegan Precast Ltd and Keegan Calcium Carbonate.

Keegan Precast Ltd specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of precast concrete products from their state-of-the-art fully automated manufacturing plant in Rathmolyon.

"We manufacture and supply precast concrete walls and slabs for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland markets. The twin wall and filigree floor slab we produce has proven it’s worth over decades of construction and development and we use the most up to date computer aided design and CADCAM factory facilities available to manufacture these elements," said Mr Keegan.

Keegan Pre-Cast has its own in-house design and drawing office to produce the models the factory needs to operate and cast the precast elements. It also has its own quarry adjacent to the production facility, producing all its own aggregate for its concrete. Keegans carry EN206 certification for the batched concrete and ISO9001 certification for all processes related to the production of the precast.

The precast wall and floor system can be used in most areas of construction where a precast or in situ wall/slab is specified and produce structures ranging in size from a multi-storey building to a single retaining wall.

Keegans also specialise in the production of Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) which is a mineral composed of three elements: carbon, oxygen and calcium. It is a non-toxic and odourless powder (CaCO3) which is found as limestone rock in all parts of the world. It supplies key minerals to crops, including calcium and magnesium, placing the physical, biological and chemical properties of soil in better balance.

Keegans GCC is of the highest quality 99 per cent (CaCO3) and free from impurities and is produced at their head office in Trammon. Any size/grading of ground calcium carbonate can be produced using their new state-of-the-art calcium carbonate plant, from less than 100 micron and upwards.
