Bus services to be redirected to new interchange in Navan town centre

Traffic flow in Navan will see a dramatic change next month as Meath County Council implements traffic management changes, which will include the reversal of traffic on Bridge Street and Ludlow Street.

In a letter to local businesses, the council had indicated it intends to to facilitate the redirection of bus services to the new Kennedy Place bus interchange at Kennedy road next month

The redirection of bus services will see the reversal of traffic on Bridge Street and Ludlow Street, the implementation of a bus, taxi and bicycle only lane on Market Square south and making Market Square two-way for buses, taxis and cyclists only from the Square to the Kennedy Road junction.

It is currently proposed for bus services to be introduced to the new interchange incrementally, commencing with the NX (Navan to Dublin) bus services. The redirection of bus services is being undertaken in conjunction with Bus Eireann and the National Transport Authority. Confirmation of the date for implementation of the changed will be advertised in due course, and temporary signage will be erected in advance to advise the public of the date of implementaton.

Meanwhile works at Kennedy Place are now approaching completion. The wall cladding at the old ESB substation is to be completed this month and the line marking works to the car park area will also be completed. Preparatory works for a new EV Rapid Charger, to be installed adjacent to the new ESB substation will take place new paving work at the Market Square/ Kennedy Road/Trimgate Street junction are continuing.

Paving works are continuing from the Central towards Loughran’s Pub at present, and these are anticipated to be completed in the coming weeks.

A new section of watermains is to be laid from the junction towards the AXA Building on Trimgate Street. The watermain works will include new service connections being made to existing customer supply feeds, and the section of redundant watermain through the junction is to be decommissioned.

A watermain shut down notice will be advertised by Irish Water to facilitate the connection works. A date of the 17th of October (from 7pm on the 17th to 6am on the 18th) has been provisionally proposed by the contractor, however the final date and time is to be confirmed by Irish Water notice.

Further works at the junction this month will include the installation of new pedestrian and traffic signals at the junction, in advance of the junction signals being connected by ESB and commissioned to facilitate the redirection of buses.

At Market Square, excavation works for drainage connections and services is to be completed also. Works at the entrance to Old Cornmarket (Market Square end) and under the archway awas due to commence on Monday for a period of two weeks. As part of these works, the pedestrian access route will be closed under the archway from 5pm to 11pm each evening for the two-week period. Signage will be erected to advise pedestrians of the closure to the route and diversion route.

Surfacing works are planned for Market Square, which are currently scheduled to take place over two periods of five consecutive nights, commencing on Monday 23rd of October and will continue until Friday 27th of October, and Monday 30th of October until Friday 3rd of November inclusive.

There will be road closures from 5pm to 6am on Monday to Friday, with the roads open to traffic outside of these hours.

The surfacing works is to be undertaken in three phases, and diversions routes will be in place for each. The works will also include new traffic calming ramps at the pedestrian crossings, raising ironmongery, and line marking.
