Actor son of former Ashbourne RFC captain dies a week after his father's funeral

Conor Hickey a former captain of Ashbourne RFC in 1982/83 sadly passed away in California on Thursday 18th May, after a short illness.

Ashbourne Rugby Club remember him as "a legend in the early days of Ashbourne Rugby Club and a force of nature in the backrow."

Conor left for California in the 80's after a very successful career at Ashbourne, which included being a member of the O'Connell Cup winning team in 1979.

Not only was he a popular figure in both the club and the area but he was also father to well-known actor Angus Cloud who starred in HBO's hit series Euphoria. His full name is Conor Angus Cloud Hickey.

The tragic news came through this morning that Angus died aged 25 on Monday at his family home in Oakland, California a week after his father's funeral.

In a statement, Cloud's family said goodbye to "an artist, a friend, a brother and a son."

"Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss," the family said.

"The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend."

In a recent social media post Ashbourne Rugby Club expressed their condolences to the family:

"The club would like to express its sincere condolences to the Hickey family - his mother and sisters as well as his many aunts and uncles and extended family.

May they both rest together in peace."
